The Advent of Anglican Church In Umueri The advent of Christian missions to Umueri was the effort of the 18th century evangelical and revival movements which went through the length and breadth of Europe. The revival hnreached America and West coast of Africa through the activities of liberated slaves. The first Christian mission to make a successful inroad to Umueri was the Anglican Church which came under the auspices of the Church Missionary Society (CMS). This was an evangelical wing of the Anglican Church founded in 1799 and commissioned to take the gospel of Jesus Christ to the ‘heathem’ lands especially Asia and Africa.
