Umueriland Today interview with Hon James Nwabia
UMUERILAND TODAY: Good day Sir, Please can you introduce yourself to our reading public?
Hon James Nwabia: my name is Hon James Ezebuilo Nwabia and am a native of Umudiana village in Ikenga quarter of Umueri, Anambra East Local Goverment Area of Anambra State, a resident of the state capital(awka) and also a member of “UGA”.
UMUERILAND TODAY:
We have heard much about you and your exploit in the governance of our dear Town, you were once a counselor, and a CTC member, could you please let us know your major interest in the fourth coming UGA election?
Hon James Nwabia: my coming to the race as “DPG umueri comes 2nd November, is to redress the in-balance in the system of Ikenga presently, Ikenga comprises of umuchezi, ugume and umudiana, and actually we have ways of sharing this that comes to Ikenga. Initially I declared for the “DPG” after some time I decided to decline then on the day we came for Ikenga submit at avianma umudiana hall the present Secretary General of “UGA” In the person of Samuel Mbukwesili came out to Announce that they have zoned all the seat that belong to Ikenga and no body was there when they zoned the seat so I decided to come out again to redress this imbalance.
UMUERILAND TODAY: You are from Ikenga Umueri (Umudaina)and we learnt that the post of DPG is zoned to Ikenga?
Hon James Nwabia: yes it’s zoned to Ikenga actually but I said nobody called us on a round table to share the position and it’s a mistake but by the time we finish with this mistake the next election the Ikenga executive or committee will address their inbalance , that is why most of us are vying. But we are not stopping the zoning arrangement because it’s good, but it’s not our fault that the leadership of Ikenga refused to do their job so everybody went astray. (Igbo proverb).
UMUERILAND TODAY : Can you tell us more about the Origin of this all Important Institution(UGA) in Umueri.
Hon James Nwabia : UGA started in the year 1983 to be precised by then it was late Joeffery Igweadiani was the first PG. it was then know as ”umueri youth organization” (UYO) from them it was renamed to UGA which my late elder brother Bennett Nwabia was once the PG. and Emma Edochie was his VPG for that period of time, then this zoning arrangement was not very clear because the zoning arrangement came afterward.
UMUERILAND TODAY : Sir, Most of our audience would like to know if your quarter will come up with a consensus DPG candidate prior to this election?
Hon James Nwabia: The controversy right now is nobody want to drop for anybody and each of the candidate has committed huge amount of money because of the imbalance in ikenga Umueri. so I don’t think that any aspirant will drop but on the day of election 2nd November anything can still happen I believe that some aspirant can withdraw for each other. But I Hon James Nwabia can’t withdraw for anybody.
UMUERILAND TODAY : So Sir in your own words, What would you say are the position of your quarter regards the forth coming election?
Hon James Nwabia: That is zoning arrangement for you, Umueri was divided into four quarters for the comfort of administration because the position we are biding now was been held by “ivite umueri” this time around it revolved to Ikenga, but the problem we have is that the leadership of Ikenga didn’t call us together to share the position among the three component clans that made up Ikenga, mind you all that what am doing is to redress the imbalance in Ikenga leadership.
UMUERILAND TODAY: Having gone through your CV it's a known fact that you are not new to governance in Umueri and the state, how do you intend to bring your wealth of experience to the new Goverment if elected?
Hon James Nwabia:firstly as I say the post of DPG is like a spear-tire under the motor, but this time around we have to. Break that monopoly of PG doing everything.i will introduce if the PG had about 7rows in the constitution, 2rows can be assigned to the DPG so the DPG will be active and vibrant , Also reside in the state capital there is no office in awka I don’t know so in this aspect if elected as the DPG it will be of importance to the community.
UMUERILAND TODAY: though we know you will be deputising the PG but what will your leadership offer Umueri Town towards the encroachment of our land's by our neighbors in all front?
Hon James Nwabia: As a lawyer I will help in every matter because been a lawyer you are versatile with land issues, already there is no land again, they have sold almost every-land. The forth coming PG is coming from Nneyi Ezi Umueri and nneyi people is insensitive in what is happening in otuocha so I will advice them to seat up when the issue of land comes up. We can consult our elders because a lot of Ikenga land has been balkanized by one interest group, so we shall hold unto our land but we have to come to round table.
UMUERILAND TODAY: How do you intend to relate with the would be PG if elected?
Hon James Nwabia:100% of mine loyalty because someone deputizing PG can not go and confront him but you have to marshal out your own ideas. But I will not fight and I must defend the constitution of Umueri.
UMUERILAND TODAY: We heard recently that you will eventually step down for a particular candidate whom your quarter endorse during their last summit at Aviamma?
Hon James Nwabia: Nobody bought form except Val ............... and at the meeting I kept on telling them that If the post of “Fin sec “ is been allocated to umuchezi that mean the post of “DPG” will be going to Ugume and Umudiana. I keep saying am not stepping down for any body.
UMUERILAND TODAY: If eventually you Trump at the poll how do you intend to reconcile with this family member's that feels betrayed?
Hon James Nwabia: Well it’s a small thing because am a team player. whoever said that what I did was offensive I will tell them what I just told you “I want to readdress the imbalance “ so every body will be aware or know there duties.
UMUERILAND TODAY: We reliably heard of a high profile meeting by some section of Ikenga son's where they shares the position allotted to Ikenga Umueri quarter between Umunchezi and Ugume na Umudiani and that this post of DPG is given to Umunchezi people?
Hon James Nwabia: when? where? and how did they zoned this position? which they claimed have been shared was not done , if possible it was done that was after every one of the aspirant of the forth coming UGA election must have obtain our form and submitted and closed so nothing was done.
UMUERILAND TODAY : Before we go Sir, please can you let us know the relationship existing between you and other aspirants.
