*Press Release:- GULF Inaugurates a Committee to articulate a Comprehensive History of Umueri*
Greater Umueri Liberation Forum (GULF) with this publication wishes to thank all those who have associated with the group since its inception in 2010. We equally wish to appreciate all the effort of all members of this group towards living to actualize our vision towards re-awaken our cultural consciousness and awareness.
This mission has seen us made an inroad towards reclaiming our *lost glory as the ancestral home of Ndigbo*, which we have pursued vigorously as a group by hoisting of websites and blogs to drive home our points. The awareness stage culminated in our 2014 news publication in *Daily Vanguard* of September of that year, detailing the world that we have proof that our town is nexus of Igbo origin .
Before then, the onus of telling our story had lies on us as a result of absence of any recorded story or book on our oral tradition and history, hence most researchers more or less had nothing to rely on our history, except tissues of lies and fabrication from our *overzealous neighbors*. However, the 2014 publication generated a lot of interests as scholars and Historians started demanding for paper presentation from us, to know more about the much suppressed and untold history of our dear Umueri land. The rest is now history with the recent publications on two major Nigeria popular dailies (*Daily Vanguard* & *Daily Authority*), in which outsiders- Imo State born Researchers of all places rising to tell and defend our history.
Therefore the era of painstakingly laboring on ourselves, to pen or tell our story has come to an end. So on that note, with permission of *Gulf board of Directors* I hereby inaugurate the following as member of *Gulf Team*, that will write a comprehensive History of our dear town, covering the history of our origin, culture, religion cum socio political histories of Umueri from time immemorial to date. The Committee members are as follow:
1. *Onyebuchi Biafra Diboh*
2. *Kachi Nzedigwe*
3. *Ebele Citizen*
4. *Sixtus Obadigbo*
5. *Ebele Agu*
This Committee does not intend to rival or negates any person or any other existing Committee working to project *Umueri history*. We are not for *Ekwolo* or for any faction as this group has existed for nearly a decade with this all important goal. We shall continue to liaise and work with any person or group to project a history that all Umueri shall be proud of. However, its our firm belief that Umueri history just like any other history deserves *meticulous*, *methodological* & *modern research methods* to bring out the best, as only the best is good for Umueri at this time that the whole of Ndigbo has come to appreciate our story.
This Committee has Six - Eight months from date to research and compile their data and then make effort towards publishing their finding for the general public.
